In ski towns they have mud season and stick season. Stick season is in the fall. It's when the leaves are off the trees, the weather is turning cold, but it isn't ready to snow and the resort town is quiet. Mud season is in the spring. The snow melts, the ground is wet and mucky. The earth is sticky mud that clumps on your shoes. The hills haven't turned vibrant green, or filled with wildflowers yet.
Stick season and mud season are when many of the shops, restaurants and inns close down. Visitor traffic is low and your vacation hosts take advantage of the lull for their own well-deserved vacations.
May is mud season for Ski Girl. I'll be on break for a bit, tending to other things. After a while away, I plan to return with new stories, news and information. Feel free to send along your own comments or tales to be posted.
Enjoy your mud season. Summer will be here before you know it.
Cheers!
